Lightweight stretch textile for frameless aluminum lightboxes. Requires dense double-strike UV inks to prevent backlighting dilution.Backlight Optical Physics & Pre-Flight Specifications
1. Why Do Backlit Signs Dilute Contrast?
Standard reflective prints absorb ambient light and reflect only the pigment wavelengths. In backlit signage, high-intensity internal LEDs shoot photons directly through translucent fibers. Low-density single-strike ink layers cannot block intense backlighting, washing out shadows and diluting dynamic contrast below 5:1.
2. Mandatory Double-Strike Ink Density
Commercial print shops must run in double-strike (200%–260% ink coverage) or Day/Night mode (Color + White + Color layers). This ensures colors appear vibrant both when illuminated from behind at night and when unlit under external daylight.
3. SWOP & FOGRA39 Print Gamut Clipping
RGB monitors emit neon shades with channel values >240 while other channels are near zero. Physical cyan, magenta, yellow, and black pigments have physical saturation ceilings. Our off-thread Web Worker flags pixels exceeding 300% Total Area Coverage (TAC) as unprintable neon magenta.
4. Transmissive LCD vs Self-Emitting OLED
LCD panels operate as transmissive light valves over rear CCFL, edge-lit, or mini-LED arrays; black pixels can never fully block light, capping contrast at 1,000:1 to 30,000:1. OLED displays emit light per sub-pixel, reaching true 0-nit infinite contrast.
